Yellowjackets Taken Down in Heartbreaker

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings Women's Soccer team lost a heartbreaker to Central Washington University 0-1 Thursday.

The Yellowjackets completely dominated every aspect of the game, except the score board. They outshot CWU 13-5 and held the advantage in corner kicks 6-2. Six of the Yellowjacket shot attempts land on goal while the powerful CWU attack was cooled by the Jackets and only landed two shots on goal.

The Wildcat's Savanna Moorehouse, who has attempted a staggering 53 shots on the year averaging 4.82 a game fallowed by her teammate Danielle Brandli who has 33 attempts on the year and averages 3.30 a game, were swarmed by jacket defenders all afternoon led by Jessie Mancilla, Katlyn Lokay, Brittney Greenback and Jennifer Johnson. Moorhouse did not even manage to get a shot off while Brandli took three shots and had one land on goal.

Going into half time the score was tied 0-0 and the Jackets had a 7-5 lead in shots during the game. After the end of regulation the Jackets had 12-3 shot advantage with Alisa Sagdahl having four shot attempts; Heidi Greenback, Ashley Marra and Agen Heffernan each had two shot attempts; Sami Hensen and Jennifer Johnson had one attempt each.

The Wildcats came out as the aggressors in the overtime period outshooting the Jackets 2-1 with Amanda Perri having the only shot attpemt for the Jackets. It was the last one for CWU that made the difference. In the 97th minute, Savannah Moorehouse broke away from Jacket defenders and forced Jacket goalie Krystal Daniels to come out of the goal and the resulting play ended with Daniels taking out Moorehouse in the box leading to a penalty kick opportunity for CWU and a red card for Daniels.

Megan Wade was called on to defend the penalty kick for MSUB. She would be facing off against CWU's Reilly Retz. Retz charged the ball and struck it hard past Wade into the right side of the goal to give the Wildcats the 1-0 victory.

The Jackets fall to 4-5-2, 3-5-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference while CWU goes to 8-4, 7-2 GNAC.

The Jackets next match is Saturday against Seatlle Pacific University slated to begin at approximately 3:30 PM at Yellowjacket Field. Live stats and video can be found at MSUBSPORTS.COM
