PORTLAND, Ore. – Picking up her fourth shutout of the season last week, Montana State University Billings women's soccer goalkeeper
Krystal Daniels earned Great Northwest Athletic Conference defensive Player of the Week honors for Oct. 6-12 announced by the conference office Monday.
"We are proud of Krystal for earning this honor from the conference," said MSUB head coach
Wojtek Krakowiak. "She got a shutout against Seattle Pacific and a win against Central Washington. Against SPU she made some phenomenal saves and was outstanding overall. She made a crucial breakaway save in the first half that was great and kept us in the game."
The senior came up big for MSUB in a conference match against Seattle Pacific on Thursday, holding the Falcons without a goal despite facing 20 shots. Daniels made four saves in the match and helped keep MSUB organized defensively in the 0-0 double-overtime draw.
On Saturday against Central Washington, Daniels faced 10 shots and allowed just one goal as the 'Jackets defeated the Wildcats 2-1 in Ellensburg, Wash. "Against Central Krystal had a solid performance and owned her box well," Krakowiak said. "She got a well-deserved win."
Daniels and MSUB have allowed just three goals over their last six matches, and her goals-against average of 0.60 is the third-best mark in the conference. She has played every minute of the season in goal for the Yellowjackets, and her save percentage of .794 ranks No. 3 in the league.
Daniels and MSUB return to action this week with road matches against No. 22 Western Washington on Thursday and Simon Fraser on Saturday.
