BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Senior
Robert Peterson fell short in his bid for a top finish during the men's race at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships. Peterson led the field early, but dropped off during the home stretch as he finished 13th in 29:39.20 on the course at Lake Padden Park at the race hosted by Western Washington University.
Senior Matt Winter was named the GNAC Newcomer of the Year.Alaska Anchorage swept the top-3 spots, taking the title over Simon Fraser.
The Yellowjackets finished fifth among the GNAC teams.
MSUB's
Matt Winter was named the GNAC Newcomer of the Year. The senior placed 29
th overall in 26:35.10. Winter was third for MSU Billings behind
Garrett Love who covered the course in 25:53.80 for 18
th place.

Freshman
Tyus Mendoza came in fourth for MSUB finishing 35
th in 26:39.90. Sophomore
Jorey Egeland was the fifth runner for the Yellowjackets crossing the tape in 26:49.80.
Rounding out the team for MSUB,
Mark Hovland placed 45
th in 26:57.70 and
Liam McKay was 53
rd in 27:07.70.
UAA's Henry Cheseto won the men's title, clocking in a time of 24:22.70 followed by teammates Dominik Notz (24:27.30) and Edwin Kangogo (24:44.10).
Alaska Anchorage won the team title with 21 points, Simon Fraser was second with 54, and Western Washington came in third with 83.

UP NEXT: MSU Billings will compete at the NCAA Division II west region championships taking place Saturday, Nov. 7 in Monmouth, Ore., on the campus of Western Oregon University. The championship course will be run on the familiar Ash Creek Preserve.
