Novis nets GNAC Player of the Week with 2 goals Saturday

PORTLAND, Ore. – Scoring twice in the final game of the season, Montana State University Billings men's soccer junior Thiago Novis has been selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference co-Player of the Week announced by the conference office Monday.

"Thiago had one of his better games on Saturday," commented MSUB head coach Alex Balog. "The runs we have been working on all season paid off with two very good goals from him. Thiago has been a constant offensive threat this season and I'm looking forward to him building on his four goals and two assists."

Novis scored two goals in MSUB's 3-3 double-overtime draw against the University of Mary in the final regular-season game of 2015 on Saturday.

Novis buried a header into the net in the 30th minute, helping the Yellowjackets respond to a 1-0 deficit and even the score in the first half. He then pushed his team ahead less than two minutes into the second half, firing a shot into the lower corner of the net from the left side inside the box. The two-goal effort pushed his season scoring total to four goals, and he also has two assists for 10 points on the season.

Novis is in his first season with the Yellowjackets, after transferring from Fresno Pacific University. He is a native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and helped MSUB to a record of 8-6-4 overall and 6-5-3 in conference games.

James Liddiard of the University of Mary, who also scored two goals in the match, earned co-Player of the Week. This is the third GNAC Player of the Week honor for MSUB's men's soccer team, with sophomore Ricardo Palomino earning the honor on two previous occasions this season.
