Trio to join MSUB men’s soccer in 2015

BILLINGS, Mont. – Adding three more players to the 2015 recruiting class, Montana State University Billings men's soccer head coach Alex Balog announced the signing of Chris Box, Tanner Corrie, and Jacob Richter on Thursday.

"We are delighted these boys have decided to commit to MSUB," commented Balog. "We have worked very hard to ensure our roster for next fall is strengthened in all areas, and these signings will help us with that. As of now, we are looking to finalize a few more signings, but with these additions we are definitely on the right track."

5515Chris Box
Thornton, Colorado
Mountain Range High School
5'11" – Defender

Earning two letters at Mountain Range High School and participating in soccer for four years, Box brings a strong presence as a right back to the Yellowjackets' defense.

A highlight of Box's career came in his senior season, when he scored the game-winning goal against Brighton and was named the Player of the Match. It was his first and only goal of the season as a senior defender.

Coach Balog on Box: "We saw Chris play for the first time a year ago in the Denver area and immediately thought he could be a defensive reinforcement. Chris came up to Billings for a visit and was sold on us after that. With Chris, we are getting additional depth defensively that we will be able to develop over the next few years. He will be part of a very exciting freshman class, and with his addition the program's future is secure and looks bright."

Box on choosing MSUB: "I chose MSUB because during my visit the environment I encountered was welcoming and fitting to the style of life I would like to be living. Also, I think MSUB will be able to shape me to be the person I desire to one day become after college."

Tanner Corrie
Snohomish, Washington
Snohomish High School
5'8" – Midfielder

Corrie is a four-year letterwinner at Snohomish High School, where he helped the Panthers to a 22-2 record under head coach Dan Pingrey. He was a second-team all-state and first-team all-conference selection as a junior, and was a second-team all-Wesco North pick in both his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Over his first three years, Corrie totaled 36 goals and scored four goals in four state playoff games including in the finals. His presence as a winger makes him a dangerous scoring threat for the 'Jackets.

Coach Balog on Corrie: "Tanner is a player with great pace and understanding of the game. His ability to beat players down the wing will provide a dangerous dynamic to our team going forward. Off the pitch, Tanner is an aspiring business major and shows great maturity for a high-school senior. Because of these qualities, we believe Tanner will fight for plenty of minutes in the fall of 2015."

Corrie on choosing MSUB: "I chose MSUB because it is the right fit for me. The team, campus, and programs offered fit what I am looking for as well as the coaching staff. It was also a step out of my comfort zone to try something new. I am excited to attend MSUB in the fall and excited to see what Montana has to offer."

Jacob Richter
Bismarck, North Dakota
Century High School
6'0" – Midfielder/Defender

A three-sport standout at Century High School, Richter earned nine letters in soccer, track, and football. As a left midfielder under head coach Nate Ulness, Richter led the Patriots to a 16-3-2 record and was a two-time all-state selection. As a senior team captain, Richter led the team in goals (18) and assists (16), and was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for North Dakota.

In track, Richter ran on the 4x4 relay team that broke the state record and took third place at the national meet. He also placed second in the 400 meters at the state meet last season. Richter also spent one year as the kicker on the Patriots' football team.

Coach Balog on Richter: "Jacob is another recruit we have been following extensively for the past couple of years. Like we have done in the past, we feel it is our duty to try to recruit the best talent not just in Montana, but in the surrounding states as well. Jacob definitely fits that bill, being one of the better college recruits in the North. We faced some stiff competition for him but were able to land him, and we are very excited about that. We think Jacob is going to surprise a lot of people next fall."

Richter on choosing MSUB: "I chose MSUB because I have always loved being outdoors and playing soccer. MSUB is a great place where I can do both. When I came for my visit, the players were great and treated me like I was a part of the team already. I have no doubt that I will enjoy my experience at MSUB while playing soccer and continuing my academics."

Box, Corrie, and Richter join a quartet of recruits that were announced in February as Balog's 2015 class continues to take shape.
