PORTLAND, Ore. – In the final game of his college career, Montana State University Billings men's basketball senior
Antoine Hosley set a Great Northwest Athletic Conference record with 50 points, and has been selected as the GNAC Player of the Week the conference announced Monday.
Â
"I was happy that Antoine could finish his career the way he did," said MSUB head coach
Jamie Stevens. "It was fun to watch him play hard on both ends and be rewarded for that effort on Saturday."
Â
Hosley converted 16 of 25 shots from the field and 16 of 18 from the foul line in a 104-99 overtime loss to Central Washington on Saturday in the Yellowjackets' final game of the 2014-15 season. Hosley had 24 points by halftime, and set the record on the back end of a pair of free throws by scoring his 48th point with 1:25 left in overtime.
Â
Hosley also had seven rebounds and a pair of assists in the game against the Wildcats. Last Thursday, Hosley scored 14 points in a 91-67 loss to Northwest Nazarene, as he totaled 64 points overall in the two games.
Â
With the big game, Hosley's scoring average jumped from 12.7 points to 14.2 points, a figure that ranks No. 11 in the GNAC.
Â
A graduate of Jefferson High School in Portland, Ore., Hosley transferred to MSUB after a year at Utah Valley University, and was previously a student-athlete at North Idaho College and the University of Washington.
Â
The previous mark was held by Ryan Diggs of Western Washington, who scored 47 points against Humboldt State on March 10, 2006. In the history of the conference, there have been 25 other 40-point games, including one this season by Sango Niang of Simon Fraser who scored 46 on Jan. 17 against Central Washington.
Â
Hosley's 16 made field goals were two shy of tying the GNAC single game record, which is held by Gerrit Eades of Saint Martin's University. His 16 makes from the free-throw line were three short of the single game record, which is also held by WWU's Diggs.
Â
Hosley's 50-point game was the fourth in MSUB history, as he tied Markus Hallgrimson's mark set on Feb. 12, 2000 against Western New Mexico for third-most in program history. Hallgrimson also holds the No. 2 all-time single game scoring mark of 51 points, which he set against Chaminade the week before he scored 50 in February of 2000.
Â
MSUB's all-time record is 54 points, which was set by Reece Gliko in a game against Southern Oregon State on Dec. 28, 1996. Stevens was the point guard for the Yellowjackets in Gliko's historic performance.
Â
Hosley was the second MSUB men's basketball player to win the GNAC Player of the Week honor this season, as junior
Momir Gataric was singled out for the week of Jan. 5-11 when he scored 45 points and shot 72.7 percent from the field in two games.
