PORTLAND, Ore. – After a historic weekend on the pitch, Montana State University Billings men's soccer sophomore
Ricardo Palomino has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference offensive player of the week announced the conference office Monday.
Palomino became just the third player in MSUB history to score four goals in a single game, achieving the feat in MSUB's 5-1 victory over South Dakota School of Mines on Sunday.
The sophomore from Puebla, Mexico was named the most valuable player of the 2015 MSUB Rimrock Classic sponsored by TNT Automotive & Marine, as he also scored two goals in MSUB's 5-0 shutout of Carroll College on Friday.
Julian Toenges had assists on four of Palomino's six goals on the weekend, including on three of his goals on Sunday.
Palomino is the first player in Yellowjacket history to score six goals in a two-game stretch. In addition to his GNAC-leading six goals, Palomino also has an assist on the season. Former NCAA Division II National Player of the Year Sam Charles scored five goals in back-to-back matches, the only other MSUB player to approach Palomino's six-goal accomplishment.
Junior center back
Tom Saltwell earned honorable mention Player of the Week, after helping MSUB to its first shutout of the year in the win over Carroll and limiting South Dakota Mines to just two shots on Sunday.
MSUB had not scored five goals in two straight games since the 2007 season, when the Yellowjackets defeated Colorado Christian at home 5-1 on Sept. 29 and defeated Saint Martin's 5-0 on the road on Oct. 4.
