PORTLAND, Ore. – After finishing tied for third place at her first-ever collegiate tournament, Montana State University Billings women's golf freshman
Anna DeMars has been picked as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week announced by the conference office Monday.
Â
DeMars finished with a two-round score of 156 (81-75) at Fox Hills Golf Club during the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference #1 tournament last week, as she tied with two other players for third place.
Â
DeMars finished just one stroke out of second place and four strokes behind the medalist in the tournament. She was one of only four golfers to shoot a round of 75 or better, and she missed tying for the tournament-low round score of 74 by one stroke.
Â
"I am very excited for Anna to be GNAC Player of the Week in her first college tournament," commented MSUB head coach
Shawn O'Brien. "This is a moment for her to always remember."
Â
A native of Townsend, Mont., DeMars competed at Broadwater High School during her prep career where she also played volleyball and basketball. She and current Yellowjacket sophomore
Bailee Dexter were teammates in high school as well.
Â
DeMars and the Yellowjackets are currently competing at the Western New Mexico University Invitational, running Monday and Tuesday at Coldwater Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
