PORTLAND, Ore. – Breaking the Montana State University Billings men's soccer career saves record and completing his first shutout of the 2017 season has earned senior goalkeeper
Tom Lohmann his second Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week award of the year announced the conference office Monday.
Lohmann is third in the GNAC with 55 saves this season and has 200 in his four-year career at MSUB. He broke the record of 196 with his second save last Thursday against No. 9 Simon Fraser University.
"Tom played himself into the record books at MSUB this past weekend, and has left his mark on our program for many years to come," said MSUB head coach
Alex Balog. "It's safe to say that Tom is the best goalkeeper this program has ever had, and for him to be recognized by the conference is rewarding for all the hard work he has put in the last four years. Tom has been playing at a high level these past few weeks, and we hope he can continue that for the last week of the season."
Lohmann made three total saves to help the 'Jackets to a 2-1 upset of the nationally ranked Clan, and followed with his first shutout of the year in MSUB's 2-0 triumph over Western Washington University. The shutout was the 10th of his career, moving him to a tie for third most in school history.
Lohmann also claimed GNAC Player of the Week honors for Sept. 11-17, when he helped the 'Jackets to a 4-2 win over the University of Mary and a 2-1 double-overtime win over No. 12 Upper Iowa University. He was an honorable mention all-conference goalkeeper in 2015, and this is his fourth career conference weekly award.
The Yellowjackets have now earned five player of the week honors, as
Realf Zhivanaj,
Guillaume Kremer, and
Javier Hernandez have each received the award previously this season.
MSUB closes the 2017 season this week, with a road match at Saint Martin's University on Thursday at 3 p.m. Mountain time, and a home match on Senior Day Saturday against South Dakota School of Mines at 2 p.m. Both games will feature live video and live statistics, available online through
MSUB's Stretch Internet portal here.
