‘Jacket jumpers, throwers compete over weekend

DICKINSON, N.D. – A pair of personal bests by Montana State University Billings freshman jumper Brenna Beckett highlighted a weekend of competition for the Yellowjacket field athletes at a pair of meets.
 
Beckett and the MSUB women's jumpers and throwers competed at the Dickinson State University Last Chance Meet on Friday in North Dakota, along with a pair of MSUB's male jumpers. On Saturday, junior Brady Ostermiller competed at a meet in Great Falls, Mont., for his final throws before the upcoming Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships set for next weekend in Monmouth, Ore.
 
Beckett took second in the long jump, with a personal-best mark of 5.06 meters on her second attempt. She then took fourth in the triple jump, with another personal best distance of 10.67 meters.
 
Halie Warren notched a height of 1.50 meters in the high jump, and also competed in the triple jump along with Shelby Browning and Shaniah Schwend.
 
In the throws, Taylor Stringari was MSUB's top finisher in the hammer at 39.70 meters and Abbie Lohof had the team's best shot put toss at 10.56 meters. Hailey Steinbeisser also threw the shot and was just behind Lohof at 10.52 meters. The freshman represented MSUB in the javelin as well, taking second place with a throw of 34.30 meters. In the discus, Steinbeisser was also MSUB's leading performer at 35.65 meters, and Lohof and Stringari were right behind at 35.56 meters and 33.43 meters, respectively.
 
On the men's side, Isaiah Girard took first place in the high jump as he cleared the bar set at 1.94 meters. Ostermiller threw a distance of 41.2 meters in the discus and 14.37 meters in the shot put on Saturday, but lightning halted the competition.
 
THE BUZZ: Beckett and Girard were picked as the St. Vincent Healthcare Players of the Day.
 
NEXT UP: MSUB competes at the conference championships next week, hosted by Western Oregon University on May 11-12 in Monmouth, Ore.
