BARCELONA (May 21, 2017) – To finish out the unforgettable tour of Spain, we took a bus ride up to Montserrat. This incredible destination had many options for everyone to participate in. Following this tour, we took the bus down to Barcelona where some individuals enjoyed the shops, and sightseeing of the town, and others found a very popular beach to relax at.

Boulders and cliffs of rocks oozing with bushes and plants filled the background of the Montserrat. The view was breathtaking as it looked over the city of Catalonia. Unlike most of the other tours during our trip, this one included more outdoor scenery. There was hiking and climbing, as well as magnificent buildings and the Monastery. A group of us used the time we had to hike up to one of the taller peaks. It took a few tries on different trails before coming across the one that went up the mountain. This trail started out with zig-zagged stairs, creating a very exhausting, and adventurous hike. Once we got about halfway up, the track turned into a dirt trail to follow on. The signs on the path revealed how long it would take us to get to each point.

After an hour of hiking, we arrived at one point where we met another group that took an electronic lift to arrive. The whole group hiked back down together to meet with everyone else. We got back to the base with the Monastery and looked through some more shops before returning to the bus. The shops contained many different foods including cheese, nuts, and honey. Every stand was giving out samples for all of the items they were selling. This was one of my favorite parts of the trip, because it allowed us to get out of a city, and explore in nature. It showed how incredibly pure Spain is outside of the city.

Later that day we took the bus to Barcelona. When we arrived, some were dropped off to continue touring the streets. Others were taken to a very popular beach to spend the afternoon. The beach was a very interesting part of the trip. It was packed with people enjoying the sunny day. There were so many events taking place. Someone was creating incredible sculptures of dragons and castles out of sand. Vendors covered the beach asking for purchases, or rambling off random noises. A few people took advantage of the deals they argued for, coming home with henna tattoos, cornrows, anklets, and tapestries. This was a wonderful end to the whole week. It was so interesting to see their culture and the different things people do in order to make money.
