Feature Story: Tyler Nelson's unique journey from Missionary to MSUB Basketball2014-2015: Led team in rebounding with 6.0 per game…scored 4.5 points and started all 28 games as a senior captain…recorded first career double-double on Feb. 5 against Simon Fraser with 13 points and 10 rebounds…had a season best 12 rebounds on Feb. 12 at Alaska Anchorage…had double-digit rebounds in five games…scored in double figures twice…had eight assists, five steals and three blocks…academic all-conference…Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society member.
2013-2014: Played in 25 contests as a junior…shot 42 percent from the field and 72.5 percent from the foul line…averaged 3.2 points and 3.3 rebounds…scored a season-high 11 points at Western Washington on Jan. 18…grabbed a season-best eight rebounds in final game of the season against Alaska Fairbanks in the GNAC Championships.2012-13: Appeared in 16 games...grabbed 16 rebounds in limited action.Central Wyoming College: Nelson played one season under Coach Stevens at Central Wyoming College in 2009-10...played in 23 games that season, scoring 3.96 points per game on 53 percent shooting from the floor.Union High School: Prepped at Union High School in Roosevelt, Utah, where he earned first team all-region honors and was an all-state honorable mention selection during his senior year in 2008-09...in the classroom carried a 3.89 GPA and was on the honor roll list...was also the president of the seminary council and was voted as the Most Outstanding Senior Boy.
